Polk County Commission Meeting

Please consider attending the commission meeting and sharing your concerns and support the County to defend our zoning and land use rights with regard to 5G tower placements.

The fight to stop a proposed 200 foot cell tower in our community continues. After Polk County initially denied the application, the tower company has now sued the County in federal court to force it to grant the permit to build the tower. The tower company claims federal law overrides the County’s zoning authority to decide whether to allow a tower to be built next to our homes. It does not! Federal law does not give telecom companies the right to place these towers wherever they want. Preserving local aesthetics, scenic views, historical places, and community character lies at the heart of local zoning laws and federal law recognizes this. Polk County was right to deny the permit because the tower would damage scenic and pastoral views and disrupt the rural character of our community.
